Obituary for Jean C. Ashton

Jean C.  Ashton
Jean C. Ashton, 90, of Erie, passed away, peacefully, Monday May 9, 2016 at St. Mary's Home East. She was born in Erie on April 17, 1926 a daughter of the late George E. and Nellie Parsons Ashton.
Jean originally worked as a buyer at Broadway Department Store in California in the late forties and went on to work at the Boston Store and Eckerd's in the Perry Plaza. Most recently she worked as an associate with K-Mart in Erie for 18 years before retiring in 1991. She was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a current member of First United Methodist Church where she was proud of her dedicated service for various food or clothing drives and other church activities. She enjoyed music, listening to the radio, reading, and especially spending time with her family. She was loved for her smile, among many other qualities.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas L. Ashton and his wife Twila and Lewis E. Ashton and his wife June; two sisters, Lucy Steiner and her husband William and Sarah E. Lee; and her former husband, George Pope.
Survivors include eight nieces and nephews, Gayle Allen (Bud) of North Fort Myers, FL, Thomas Ashton (Hilda) of Fort Myers, FL, Nancy Zinner (Gilbert) of Louisville, KY, Jack Ashton (Peggy) of Girard, Lois Waugh (Richard) of Manson, N.C., Donald Ashton (Carol) of Erie, Patricia Lee of Erie, and Dr. Robert Steiner (Chemi) of Louisville, KY; and many great nieces and nephews; great great nieces and nephews; and dear friends.
Friends are invited to a graveside service at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery (section 3) on Friday, July 8 at 11:00 a.m..
Memorial contributions can be made to First United Methodist Church, 707 Sassafras St., Erie, 16501 or to St. Mary's Home East, 607 E. 26th St., Erie, 16504.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at St. Mary's Home East for their excellent care and compassion given to Jean during her time spent there.
