Edward J. Hammerman, 101, of Erie, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born in Erie on May 10, 1921, a son of the late Jesse and Catherine Schleicher Hammerman Sr.
He graduated from East High School in 1939.
Edward worked as a Tile Setter at Erie Mantle and Tile before starting his own business, Hammerman Flooring, which he owned and operated for many years. He also worked as a route driver for Erie Times News.
He was a member of St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. Edward was an avid square dancer with the Y Squares and drove Figure 8 Stock Cars at Wattsburg Speedway. He was also an avid Nascar and Penn State Football fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucy Kanis, who passed away on September 3, 1976; his second wife, Therese Jenks, who passed away on March 16, 2017; his brothers, William Hammerman Sr. and Jesse Hammerman Jr.; and his sister, Violet Hammerman Zewe.
Edward is survived by his son, Gary Hammerman of Waterford; his daughters, Pat (Bob) Renninger of Guys Mills and Mary Kay Zimmerley of Springboro, OH; his grandchildren, Katelyn (Cody) Morrison of Columbus, OH, and Cody Zimmerley of Edinboro; his great-granddaughter, Zara Leigh Morrison; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services are private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be private in the Spring at Mount of Olives Cemetery.
