Obituary for Velma Lou "Val" Dickey (Litz)

Velma "Val" Litz Dickey, 84, of Erie, passed away Wednesday February 22, 2023 at her residence. She was born in Erie on April 22, 1938 a daughter of the late Scott and Etta Hatch Litz.

Val worked for Hammermill Paper Company for 46 years until her retirement. She also owned Terrace Dairy Store and the LaStrada Inn. She was a member of the Pulaski, Fulton, and Slovak National Clubs. She was known for her quick wit, love of family, being everyone's "Gram", and casino trips with her favorite, Jodie. Now that settles that!

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Jaime, daughter Jodie. her grandson, Michael, her great great grandson, Jose; three brothers, Richard W. Litz, Sr., Scott A. Litz, and Paul Litz; and one sister, Jean Ball.

Survivors include daughter Jennifer, (Rodney), son Jeffrey both of Erie; seven grandchildren, Brandy, (Shannon), Tony (Melissa), David, (LeAnn) Dawn (Henry), Tiffany, Josh (Kim), and Daniel. Great grand children include Cheyenne, Cierra, Cayleen, John David, Olivia, Dawson, Dallas, Cameron, Arianna, Josh Jr, Dominic, Jaleek, Jalis, Isabella, Isela , Ashton, Aleecia and Austin. One great, great granddaughter Laela Louise who is her namesake. Lastly her cats, Bob, Beyonce and Gaga.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

The family would like to sincerely thank the entire staff of Walnut Creek Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and Denny from UPMC Hospice for their compassion, friendship, and loving care given to Val.
