Obituary for John P. Webb

John P. Webb age 78, of Union City, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday April 11, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of passing. He was born in Shippenville, PA, on July 16, 1944, the son of the late Thelma (Hahn) Webb.

John was a graduate of Keystone High School. He proudly served in the US Air Force and was stationed in Germany. When he first came to Erie, John worked as a welder at General Electric and later went on to work for National Fuel Gas for 33 years until his retirement as a General Foreman.

John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Phidelis L. Webb; three daughters that he adored: Tammy Stutzman and her husband Doug, Lisa Rhoades and her husband Jeff, and Vanessa Webb. He was Papa to his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy: Sean, Evan, Rachel, Sarah, Meghan, Austin, Ryan and a great granddaughter Lola. He is also survived by his sister Ruth Aaron of Ohio.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by five siblings: Richard, Sally, Philip, Ralph and Gail.

John was an active member of the Lake Pleasant United Methodist Church. He was instrumental in completing several improvements to the church, served on numerous committees and was groundskeeper for the property for many years. John was always eager to tackle any new project. All his family and friends knew that he could fix anything. In addition to being a self-taught handyman, he was an avid carpenter, crafting many unique and decorative pieces for his family and friends. John spent many hours tinkering in his garage. He also enjoyed being outdoors, fishing in Lake Pleasant, hunting for deer and gardening in his back yard. During family gatherings, he was always up for a good game of cards. A true family man who will be remembered for his kindness to others, generosity, humor and storytelling.

Later in life, John had his share of health issues; however, he chose to live his life with peace and optimism. He will be enormously missed by all who loved him.The family appreciates all the love and prayers throughout this journey.

All are warmly invited to call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, Erie, PA on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a funeral service at the funeral home on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private in St. Mark's Cemetery in Knox, PA.
