Obituary for Nadine Kunkel (Field)

Nadine (Field) Kunkel, 86, of Erie, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023. She was born in Erie on March 3, 1937 and was the daughter of the late Glenn and Ruth (Adams) Field.

As a young girl, Nadine was a member of the Rainbow Girls. She received piano and singing instruction and later on was a member of Symphonic Singers of Erie and the Presque Isle Chorale.

Nadine graduated from Academy High School, Class of 1955. She was the Captain of the Majorettes when the Academy Marching Band was invited to perform in the Rose Bowl Parade.

She was the manager of the Erie Federal Credit Union for many years until her retirement. Nadine was an avid gardener and had an enormous love of nature and animals...always having a dog or two by her side. She was a member of Elmwood Presbyterian Church and served as a Deacon for many years. She lived her life deeply rooted in her faith.

Creative and accomplished, warm and welcoming...she shared her gift of love and kindness to all she knew and she will remain in our hearts forever.
She was "OUR MOM", "OUR NANA", "OUR FRIEND" and will be greatly missedā¤.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter in infancy, Kathleen Marie Kunkel, and one sister, Diane Field Knapp.

Survivors include her former husband of 23 years, Lewis W. Kunkel, father of their 4 children; Scott Kunkel (Lisa) of Indiana, Kristen McCormick and Kelli Petroff of Erie and Kurtis Kunkel of South Dakota; 11 grandchildren; Raun (Elise), Donald (Olivia), Nicholas, Morgan, Marmee, Samuel (Bobbie), Taylor (Ana), Hannah, Abigail, Tehya, and Dylan and 7 great grandchildren; Amelia, Silas, Harrison, Rumi, Cairo, Wyatt, and Starling; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a future date. Funeral arrangements were made by the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, 16504.
